Regional Cooperative Agreement Development & Implementation - M. von Nkosi for ANDP/MICI

While leading the Mixed Income Communities Initiative (MICI) – Research Policy & Advocacy at the Atlanta Neighborhood Development Partnership, Inc. (ANDP) - 1998-2007 von conceived of a collaborative relationship among the public sector, non-profit and NGOs with leveraging philanthropic resources to spearhead the creation of the 1st truly regional housing data center in Atlanta.

Building on top of the infrastructure of the Atlanta Regional Commission and Georgia State University he developed and negotiated the memorandum of agreement for the partnership among ANDP, ARC, and the Department of Community Affairs (DCA) for the State of Georgia
After considerable deliberations about the way in which data will be collected, stored and shared, the organizations arrived at an understanding of how best to proceed with the creation of what was initially called the Regional Housing Resource Center (RHRC). While much collaborative work was still needed after the signing of the agreement von and his partners in this effort knew this work would result in much needed data that will be viewed as unbiased and reliable.

Examples of data collected included:

1.    Housing type
2.    Location
3.    Housing cost
4.    Income
5.    Job-housing imbalance
6.    Land use
7.    Poverty
8.    Race/ethnicity
9.    Tax base
10.    Transportation and workforce housing, and more.

Equally important to how and what data is collected was the question of how the data would be disseminated. The collected data was to be presented online in multiple formats.
