Old Suwanee - A Traditional Community - Richport Properties

The City of Suwanee, Georgia sits along side the Norfolk Southern Railroad just north of Interstate 85 in Gwinnett County. The City Center is bounded by major highways and roads. While all of these roads are major transportation corridors in the area, they all bypass Old Town Suwanee.

Richport’s Old Suwanee community was conceived to capitalize upon the assets of an existing community by bridging the old to the new. The community concept was birthed in a conversation between the president of Richport Properties and the City Planner of Suwanee. Richport proposed to purchase two parcels of land totaling 27 acres along Scales Road, an old City road with no right-of-way and barely 18 feet of triple treatment paving.

The 27 acre parcel that is now the Old Suwanee community. Our community concept was to integrate both Scales and Jackson through the center of a traditional neighborhood community, thereby “extending” Old Town out to McGinnis Ferry with its new commercial/retail centers and various transportation modes. Utilizing a traditional land plan with common areas and rear alley access for the homes advanced the goals of the Atlanta Regional Commission’s Regional Development Plan and also the desires of the City of Suwanee.
