John I. Rivers, NCARB, AIA

John I. Rivers has been in architectural practice since the mid-1960s. In his early and mid-career years of professional practice John worked for the very prestigious architectural firms of Skidmore Owings & Merrill; Bechtel; the M.W. Kellogg Co; and Bond Ryder Associates.  He hold licenses to practice architecture in several states including Georgia, South Carolina, Louisiana & New York.

John had the privilege of serving on design teams as designer, assistant job captain; associate, associate principal and principal on some very prestigious architectural projects such as The Joseph H. Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, DC; The Martin Luther King Center for Non-Violent Social Change, Atlanta, GA; The Schomburg Library for Research in Black Culture, New York City; Hartsfield Jackson International Airport, Atlanta, GA; and the Georgia Pacific Headquarters Office Building, Atlanta, GA.

John is a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA); Past President of the West Georgia Chapter of the AIA; serves on the foundation board of Columbus Technical College.

He has received certificates for achievement and contributions from Georgia US Congressman Sanford Bishop and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.  John is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity and a graduate of Leadership Columbus 2000.  He is also the father of M. von Nkosi the principal of The MXD Collaborative, Inc. and Liquid Studios.

John received a B.S. from Hampton (Institute) University in 1965. He was accepted by Pratt Institute (Brooklyn, New York) fine arts graduate school to pursue a master’s degree in fine arts and attended Columbia University Graduate School of architecture.
