Karen Tinsley, Ph.D.

Dr. Karen Tinsley is the Associate Director of Research at the Housing and Demographics Research Center (HDRC) at the University of Georgia.  The Centers’ faculty engages in research and outreach projects focused on improving the quality of life of Georgia’s families and has ongoing collaborations with public and private housing organizations on local, state, and national levels. She serves as the liaison to the HDRC Board of Advisors.

During her nine years with the HDRC, Karen has been the project (and grants) manager for numerous research studies and outreach projects related to workforce housing, barriers to developing affordable housing, employment-based housing demand analysis and community and economic development, as well as one of the principal authors.

Karen was instrumental in launching a statewide housing technical assistance program for cities in Georgia in 2005: The Georgia Initiative for Community Housing (GICH), and she is the Program Coordinator. In partnership with the Department of Community Affairs and the Georgia Municipal Association, GICH has helped 26 locally-based teams plan to improve the housing in their community. She received her PhD in Economics from the University of Georgia Terry College of Business in 2003.
