Anne L. Sweaney

Dr. Sweaney is a Professor and Head of the Department of Housing and Consumer Economics in the College of Family and Consumer Sciences at The University of Georgia.  She also serves as the Director of the Housing and Demographics Research Center (HDRC). Dr. Sweaney earned a Ph.D. in Business Administration from the University of Alabama, focusing on Housing.

Anne has published widely in the field of housing and has secured in excess of a quarter of a million dollars in grants and contracts in recent years. Her research interests include the effect of public policy on housing for families and consumers, housing needs of older adults, and the role of technology in adapting housing for the life span. She is the Principal Investigator for an Experiment Station funded project to study housing affordability and manufactured housing.

Dr. Sweaney is the recipient of numerous awards recognizing the quality of her teaching and research. The Josiah Meigs Award for Excellence in Teaching, The University of Georgia, 1999; National Award Recipient for the Teacher of Excellence by the United States Department of Agriculture, 1996 (only two selected); named a Senior Teaching Fellow by the Office of Instructional Development, 1995-96; Teacher of the Year, College of Family and Consumer Sciences, 1994 and 2001.

Outstanding Undergraduate Advisor Award, College of Family and Consumer Sciences, 1993, 1996 and 1999; Distinguished Teacher Award, Gamma Sigma Delta, 1992, Teaching Academy, The University of Georgia, 2001; Selected as mentor for the Lilly Fellowship program 1991-92, 2007; Creswell Award for contributions made to assist students in professional development, College of Family and Consumer Sciences Alumni Association; and has recently been named to The University of Georgia Teaching Academy.

She has held national offices and committee positions in the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences and the Housing Education and Research Association (HERA) formerly the American Association of Housing Educators and has served as Associate Editor of Housing and Society.  Dr. Sweaney serves on the Board of Directors of the Systems Building Research Alliance formerly the Manufactured Housing Research Alliance, representing the interests of consumers.
