Janet Davas

After spending more than 25 years in the private energy sector where she gained exceptional organizational and communication skills and business acumen, Ms. Davas founded Liberty’s Kitchen in 2008 in response to her commitment to help rebuild and renew New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina.

A model social enterprise, Liberty’s Kitchen empowers the lives of New Orleans’ disconnected youth through foodservice-based operations that provide real-life training opportunities for trainees - and financial support for the organization. Janet built an organization that helped to transform the lives of over 300 disconnected youth during the five years she served as Executive Director, and initiated a school lunch program that served over two million healthy, freshly prepared meals to low-income public school children in the city over her tenure.

Additionally, Ms. Davas spearheaded Liberty's Kitchen's expansion and move to the ReFresh Project, a unique community economic development project which repurposes an abandoned grocery store into a “Fresh Food Hub” that delivers fresh, healthy and affordable food to underserved communities with co-tenant and partner Whole Foods Market; this groundbreaking production partnership combines the goals of for-profit and non-profit organizations - maximizing both economic and social outcomes for the community.

Having accomplished her goal of launching Liberty’s Kitchen as a model social enterprise and moving the mission to the ReFresh Project, Ms. Davas chose to step down as its Executive Director and begin her consulting firm, Hatch, LLC. She is now advising other non-profits in both start-up and more mature stages of growth with strategies for increasing revenue and sustainability through social enterprise.

“My goal in launching Hatch is to share with other like-minded social entrepreneurs what I have learned from my experience in both the for-profit and non-profit sectors – helping you help others.”

Ms. Davas serves on the Tulane University Changemakers Institute Advisory Board, the National Advisory Board for Catalyst Kitchens and was honored when recently selected as a Coach/Mentor for the W.K. Kellogg Foundation’s Community Leadership Network Fellowship Program.

Ms. Davas has also been invited to participate in the Clinton Global Initiative America again this year. She has a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Texas-Austin and was one of the first women professionals hired in the oil and gas exploration industry.
