Judy M. Ford, CPCC, ACC

Judy M. Ford, CPCC, ACC, is Founder and Principal Coach of Sunrise Consulting, LLC, a professional coaching and organizational consulting practice that specializes in providing executive coaching, leadership training and staff development services tailored to the professional development needs of staff and leaders of social sector organizations.

From a leadership philosophy that is deeply rooted in the models and values of servant and transformational leadership, the coaching, training and development services Ms. Ford provides are particularly focused on supporting social sector staff and leaders in developing the ‘soft skills’ critically necessary for 21st century leadership and organizational success. Ms. Ford also provides programmatic, strategic planning, organizational culture and capacity building, board and other development services for a diverse portfolio of social sector organizations.  

Ms. Ford founded Sunrise Consulting, LLC in order to provide the social sector with increased access to the transformative power of coaching. Since the mid-1990s Judy has used her experience to promote the advancement of social sector organizations in achieving greater positive impact for the communities and people they serve, through staff, organizational and effective leadership development.  

Sunrise Consulting, LLC specializes in the professional development and advancement of women leaders, leaders of color, and emerging leaders; as well as providing consulting services for the organizations they lead in order to increase their capacity for achieving their community service, civic engagement and social change goals.   For example, individual leaders and organizations participating in The Latino Nonprofit Leadership Academy, the Bank of America Neighborhood Builders Leadership Program, Emerging Practitioners in Philanthropy’s Annual Conference Career Coaching & Seminars and the Louisiana Effective Leadership Fellows Program, just to name a few, have all benefited from Ms. Ford’s coaching, training and/or leadership development expertise and services.

Prior to launching her coaching and consulting practice, Ms. Ford enjoyed a significant and successful career in leadership, management and development, volunteerism and mentoring with grantmaking and other social sector organizations at the local, regional and national levels including: regional health foundations, local family foundations, national public foundations, community-based donor advised funds, national philanthropic membership associations, regional associations of grantmakers and national leadership development organizations.  

Ms. Ford has also served in organizational governing roles as a board chair, board member and/or committee chair for a number of local, regional and national social sector organizations including: the Association of Black Foundation Executives; Women and Philanthropy; CentroNia; the Black Philanthropic Alliance; The Initiative to Strengthen Neighborhood Intergroup Assets (now referred to as The Common Ground Fund: Investing in Racial Justice and Social Change) and the Washington AIDS Partnership.  

In addition to coaching, leadership development and organizational consulting, Ms. Ford’s areas of expertise include: partnership development and collaboration; seminar/workshop/training development and implementation; conference/meeting planning; strategic planning; organizational governance; grantmaking and grants portfolio management; and new program/initiative design and implementation.

Ms. Ford is a Certified Professional Co-Active Coach (CPCC), one of the most highly regarded certification credentials in the international coaching field, and is credentialed with the International Coach Federation as an Associate Certified Coach (ACC).  She holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from Boston University, The University of Michigan and The Johns Hopkins University.  

Ms. Ford is a graduate of the Emerging Leaders Fellowship Program - a highly selective international leadership development program focusing on ethics and moral values in leadership and public service, directed and mentored by Ambassador James A. Joseph, former U.S. Ambassador to South Africa, and sponsored by the United States-Southern Africa Joint Centres for Leadership and Public Values at Duke University and the University of Cape Town.  As a result of her successful completion of the program, Ms. Ford has been awarded the distinction of Life Fellow with the Joint Centres.
