Lorne Steedley

Lorne Steedley currently manages, directs, and leads the Corporate Citizenship efforts of Neighborhood Health Plan ("NHP”) in Boston, Massachusetts. Lorne delivers NHP’s Community Benefits Programs. Community Benefits are investments by Health Maintenance Organizations (“HMOs”) that further the charitable mission of addressing community health and social needs. The intent is to combat health inequities and health disparities by identifying innovative partnership in place-based settings to curb negative health outcomes.

Previously, Lorne served as a Members Relations Director for the Council on Foundations. In that role, Lorne managed philanthropic relationships in the Southeastern United States. This included relationship management, convening, and framing collaborations.

For nearly 5 years, Lorne served as a grant maker at the Annie E. Casey Foundation. At Casey, Steedley developed a body of work that sought to examine the effects of gentrification, regionalism, and sprawl on vulnerable families in high growth and no-growth communities. Prior to joining the foundation, Steedley served as the Assistant Director for the Washington, DC Office of former South Carolina Democratic Governor Jim Hodges. Before moving to Washington, DC, Steedley spent fourteen years in Boston working in the community development field. This included six-year tenure with the City of Boston's Department of Neighborhood Development, a stint as tenant organizer for Grant Manor Tenant Association, and a broad member of the Four Corners Development Corporation.

No stranger to civic participation, Steedley is the former President of the Chatham Neighborhood Association, a former Trustee and Board Member of the Enoch Pratt Free Library, and a member of the Baltimore Investment Youth Council. He is a former Research Fellow in the Department of Urban Studies and Planning at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and is a Life Fellow of the Emerging Leaders Program; Steedley received a BA from the University of South Carolina, a MS in Human Services from the University of Massachusetts-Boston, and a MA in Sociology from Boston College.
