Dan Cotter, LEED AP

Dan Cotter is an emerging practitioner in real estate development and urban planning.

His multidisciplinary background provides a unique set of skills to support complex and innovative community development projects, including mixed-use, urban infill projects; transit-oriented developments; mixed-income housing; and brownfield redevelopments.

Dan is graduate of Georgia Tech’s Master of City and Regional Planning program, with a specialization in Real Estate Development. He has four years of experience in real estate development, urban planning, and related research, with additional experience in other fields.

His studies at Georgia Tech have given him a solid grounding in real estate finance and development, market analysis, housing policy, urban design policy, GIS, statistics, and graphic representation. In every function he performs, he also demonstrates strong communication, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills.

Dan moved to Atlanta in 2008 to work on the proposed $300M campus expansion of the Woodruff Arts Center.

While attending Georgia Tech, he worked part-time at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, where he produced foreclosure trend reports and contributed to research on community and economic development topics.

While at Georgia Tech, Dan also:

  1. Formed and led a taskforce to design and implement a housing inventory for a local community land trust or “CLT,” enabling land acquisition and fundraising
  2. Consulted on a U.S. EPA pilot project – the City of Atlanta’s Area-Wide Brownfield Planning Program
  3. Was retained by the Enterprise Innovation Institute to identify and disseminate best practices for integrating light-industry into transit-oriented development
  4. Conceived of and promoted a new concept called “affordable urbanism,” which involves transit-oriented, mixed-income housing development and light-industrial job creation
  5. Wrote a real estate development proposal implementing the "affordable urbanism" concept

In his free time, Dan volunteers for Habitat for Humanity and serves on the board of the Atlanta Neighborhood Development Partnership.
